We received fluorinated bottles from a packaging material manufacturer. The bottle body diameter is about 90mm, bottle mouth diameter is 42mm, thickness is about 2.0mm. The customer requested to measure its wall thickness, especially the thickness of the arc part from the bottle body to the bottle mouth. Wall thickness is an important indicator of fluorinated bottles. It will affect the safety during storage, transportation and use. If the wall thickness don’t meet the standard or uneven, the fluorinated bottle may be deformed or broken when subjected to external force, thereby threatening the safety and effectiveness of the contents. Therefore, it is very important to detect the wall thickness of the fluorinated bottle.


Measurement and Analysis


Ultrasonic thickness gauge can accurately, reliably, and repeatably measure the wall thickness of a workpiece from one side of the workpiece.

The selection of thickness gauge probes is very important for measurement. When measuring, such as the thickness, shape, and material of the workpiece should be considered and select the appropriate thickness gauge and probe.

Considering that the thickness range of the sample material is not large, we recommend using YUSHI PM5 Gen2 ultrasonic thickness gauge with a frequency range of 15M-20MHz, contact diameter of 3-6mm probe.

If the diameter of the measuring bottle is less than 50mm or the R-angle is less than 15mm, the probe with a contact surface of 3mm is recommended.

Due to the small contact surface, it is difficult for the end of the delay block to maintain a vertical state with the surface of the measured material, resulting in small echo signal or even no echo. In this case, a probe holder can be used for coupling the probe to the small measuring surface, so that the measurement is more stable, the echo is clear, and the measurement value is accurate.
