Sample Measurement
We received product samples of U-shaped tubes and serpentine tubes from pipe fitting manufacturers, diameter range 15-20mm and thickness 2.0mm. The customer requires measuring the wall thickness, especially the thickness of the stretched arc. U-shaped tube parameters include size, specification and weight. Thickness is one of the important parameters, which directly affects the strength, service life and safety performance of the steel pipe.
Measurement and Analysis
U-shaped tubes and serpentine tubes have high requirements on the thickness of the arc parts at the bends. Only when the thickness reaches a certain standard requirement can they withstand a certain pressure to ensure normal use.
Ultrasonic thickness gauge can accurately, reliably, and repeatably measure the wall thickness of a workpiece from one side of the workpiece.
The selection of thickness gauge probes is very important for measurement. When measuring, such as the thickness, shape, and material of the workpiece should be considered and select the appropriate thickness gauge and probe.
Considering that the thickness range of the sample material is not large, we recommend using YUSHI PM5 Gen2 ultrasonic thickness gauge with a frequency range of 15M-20MHz, contact diameter of 3-6mm probe.
Measurement Result
The 15M6 probe can be used to measure conventional pipe fittings. If the diameter of the measuring tube is less than 50mm or the R-angle is less than 15mm, the probe with a contact surface of 3mm is recommended.
Due to the small contact surface, it is difficult for the end of the delay block to maintain a vertical state with the surface of the measured material, resulting in small echo signal or even no echo. In this case, a probe holder can be used for coupling the probe to the small measuring surface, so that the measurement is more stable, the echo is clear, and the measurement value is accurate.
