Application of Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge in Thickness Measurement of Electrical Material Laminated Products
What is laminate in electrical materials
Electrical materials include conductive materials, insulating materials, magnetic materials, semiconductor materials, etc. Laminate is a very important insulating material, which is composed of two or more layers of resin-impregnated fibers or fabrics that are laminated and hot-pressed into a whole. They can be plates, tubes, rods or other shapes. Laminated products can be processed into various insulating structural parts. With the development of electrical industry, laminated products with high insulation, high strength, high temperature resistance and adaptability to various use environments have appeared and are widely used in motors, transformers, high and low voltage electrical appliances, electrical instruments and electronic equipment.
Properties and Applications of Laminates
Electrical laminate is used to fix wires and cables, increase the reliability of connections,it has excellent mechanical and electrical properties, suitable for processing various wear-resistant insulating structural parts, as well as heat-resistant grade B materials. Aviation glass cloth laminate, with high mechanical strength, dielectric strength and clean appearance, is widely used in aviation equipment structural materials and decorative materials.
Sample Parts
We received samples of electrical laminate products from electrical material manufacturers, including epoxy glass cloth laminates, aviation glass cloth laminates, etc., with thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 100mm. The quality control of laminate products has relevant standards, which have clear requirements for nominal thickness and allowable deviation. Using an ultrasonic thickness gauge to measure whether the material thickness meets the standard and uniform is crucial to ensure the safe operation of the circuit and the performance stability of the equipment.
Measurement Analysis and Measurement Results
The selection of thickness gauge and thickness probe is very important for thickness measurement. When measuring, factors such as the thickness, shape, and material of the workpiece to be measured should be taken into consideration, the thickness gauge and probe suitable for measurement should be selected.
Considering the sample thickness range is relatively wide, we use YUSHI PM5 Gen2 ultrasonic thickness gauge and select probes of different frequencies and types for different thicknesses. Select higher frequency probe (5-15M)for thinner thickness, and lower frequency probe (0.5-2.25M) for thicker thickness. The selection of different probes can make echoes clearly and measurement stability.
Electrical material laminates are widely used in military, aerospace, large-scale power generation, high voltage (UHV) power transmission and transformation, high-speed rail, meteorological intervention and other key areas of supporting insulation materials.
